# Data license

## What is in this release

A record is included only if its collection's **image licence clearly allows
redistribution, including commercial reuse** (public domain, CC0, CC BY or
CC BY-SA), as checked collection by collection in the licence audit of
2026-09-23 (https://syllogeum.org/data#provenance). Anything NC- or
ND-licensed, anything with contradictory or unclear terms, and anything not
yet reviewed is left out. Those records stay viewable on the site with
attribution, but they are not redistributed.

## Licences and required credit, per collection

Each record names its collection in its `attribution` field (second column).

- **CC BY-SA 4.0 metadata** (Berlin, Linz): the catalogue text of these
records (e.g. `coin_title`) is the collection's own and may be reused
under CC BY-SA 4.0: credit the collection and share adaptations alike.
- **ODbL 1.0 metadata** (ANS, Fralin): the records are an extract of the
source's Open Database License database. If you publicly use a derived
database, credit the source and offer it under the ODbL.
- **Wikimedia Commons images** are licensed file by file. The licence and
author of each one are on its Commons file page, which is linked from the
Wikidata item in the record's `source_url`.
- Public-domain images need no licence, but please credit the collection.

records with unresolved per-item rights, and the Nomisma RDF-dump collections
whose terms are NC/ND or unclear (for example KENOM, the Swiss National

Bank and most IKMK university cabinets).
